Senior Clinical Psychologist
Dr. Cliona Cosgrove is a Senior Clinical Psychologist with a Bachelors degree in Psychology (2002) and a Doctorate in Clinical Psychology (2009) from Trinity College Dublin. She also completed a Masters in Health Psychology at University College Galway (2004). Cliona is passionate about the development of secure relationship attachment within the parent/care giver and child/teen relationships. She is an advocate of working with parents to validate children and teens’ lived experiences to reduce psychological pain and suffering within the family system. She is a trained Dialectical Behaviour Therapist and has specialist training in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Attachment-based family therapy (ABFT) and Emotion-Focused Skills for Parents (EFSTP).
Cliona’s other special interests are in holistic psychology, mindfulness, meditation and sound healing practices. . She provides clinical formulation and diagnostic assessments and therapy services to adolescents and parents.
Cliona has experience in working within adult mental health and CAMHS, child primary care and intellectual disability services within the HSE and private sector. She is also a consultant senior Clinical Psychologist at the Paediatric Clinical Psychology Service at the Beacon Hospital in Sandyford. Cliona has lectured on introductory psychology at Dorset College and in Health Psychology at Dublin City University.
Cliona completed the Masters of Wisdom and Meditation Teacher training with the davidji Meditation Academy in 2022; and has completed her certification in sound healing in November 2023. With these practices, alongside her clinical experience and training, Cliona has developed a holistic and multifaceted approach to working with mental health difficulties.
Cliona is also a keen advocate for work-based stress reduction and staff wellbeing with a passion in working with front-line staff in the public and corporate sector to minimise burnout and promote staff well-being. She also provides well-being workshops, educational seminars and holistic experiences to second level students, teachers and parents.

She completed a research masters in health psycho-oncology at Dublin City University in 2008 and graduated in 2011 from a Doctorate in Clinical Psychology from Trinity College Dublin. She has a range of experiences within in the public and private sector.
Ann is highly proficient in conducting psychology assessment, formulation, diagnosis and therapeutic intervention with children and adults. Her specific areas of therapeutic interest include; Attachment-based family therapy (ABFT), Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT) and Emotion Focused Therapy (EFT). In addition to her work in the private sector, Ann has spent 9 years working in the HSE CAMHS services with children and adolescents experiencing acute and enduring mental health difficulties. She has also worked in Adult Mental Health Services in the community and inpatient setting. She currently works as a Paediatric Clinical Psychologist in the Beacon Hospital in Sandyford.
Ann enjoys teaching as evidenced by her lecturing role in Dublin City University and her role of visiting lecturer on the Doctorate in Clinical Psychology at Trinity College Dublin (2012-2019) lecturing on topics such as Depression, Anxiety, Sexuality and report-writing. She regularly provides clinical and research supervision for Psychologists in Clinical Training. Ann has participated in community outreach education workshops and has a keen interest in facilitating staff training sessions. She has a strong commitment to professional development and has spent time a committee member on the Division of clinical Psychology in the Psychological society of Ireland (PSI). She has a number of publications in professional recognised journals and has completed many research presentations at national and international conferences.
